EAST MOLINE — Loretta “Punkie” Hallquist, 94, of East Moline, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, with her loving family by her side.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Loretta Mae Gainey was born Nov. 25, 1923, on the home farm in Warner, Ill., to Guy and Mattie (Miller) Gainey. She graduated from Orion High School in 1941. She married Les “Poike” Hallquist on April 4, 1945. He died July 2, 2014.
Loretta worked at the Airport Inn after high school and then was a bookkeeper for Schmidt Beauty Supply, New York Store, Kaybee Clothing and Hallquist Maytag Repair. She belonged to First Christian Church, Moline, from 1945 until 2017, where she was active with Sunday School, youth groups and C.W.F.
She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, and enjoyed “golf at ‘92’” at Saukie and Indian Bluff. She and Les spent several winters in Florida and Arizona. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren!
Loretta is survived by daughters, Debbie (Joseph) Kaczor, Milan, and Vicki (Daniel) Raney, Moline; five grandchildren, Deena (Troy) Simpson, Leigh (Robert) Medley, Melissa (Chad) Bohonek, Matthew (Andrea) Raney and Nicholas (Tara Nixon) Raney; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Gus (Nancy) Gainey, Diz (Betty) Gainey, Gene (Jeannie) Gainey and Evelyn Nichols; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Barney Gainey.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Garneau and his staff, and everyone at I.R.C. for their wonderful care.
