Daniel Garvis, MHS 66, Veteran - Rest in Peace



Daniel J. Garvis, 65, of Iowa City, formerly of Moline, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at his home.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111 1st St. A, Moline. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military honors conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 299. Memorials can be made to Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 299, where he was a member.

Dan was born April 7, 1948, in Vermillion, S.D., son of Victor and Dorothy Rayman Garvis.
Dan graduated from Moline High School and Black Hawk College. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, including one year in Vietnam.

Dan had been employed at John Deere Distribution Center, Milan, iWireless Center, Moline, and volunteered at the Iowa Veterans Hospital, Iowa City.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra; stepdaughter, Kayla; stepgrandson, Liam; parents, Vic and Dorothy Garvis, Moline; brothers, Mike (Pam) Garvis, Moline, and John Garvis, Chicago; sister, Georgina (David) Svec, St. Joseph, Mich.; nieces and nephews, Tris, Tim, Abby and Gina Garvis and Madeline, Lydia and Isabelle Svec.

He was preceded in death by a stepson, Joshua Sanders.

Our country called him to serve. He led a good life. Now the Lord has called him home.
